The BHS Equitation Competition is designed to encourage those young riders who ride at BHS approved riding schools - in fact the competition is only open to children who don't own a pony, riding genuine riding school licensed hoses/ponies.
The competition is only judged on the abilty of the rider, NOT the horse as is the case in mainstream competitions, and the day is split into dressage, showjumping and an equestrian general knowledge quiz.
Last year we took a team of four to the finals held at Warwickshire and were pleased to come back with a 9th place, against a large number of high quality entries. This year we are intending to put children forward for three qualifiers, and hopefully sending as many children as possible to the finals in May 2009.
We sent four children up to Ipswich in the half term, two in each age category.
In the 13 and under we took Jinks and Elinor Cowen and Chaos with Georgina Keam.
In the 17 and under we took Chaos and Jamie Entwistle and Sparky with Philippa Wisbey.
Despite being vastly outnumbered by the home side - NHEC had plenty of entries!, Philippa and Elinor both won their age group to qualify for the Championships. Unfortunately Jamie just missed qualification by one place, and Georgina also missed out this time. Never mind - still a few more qualifiers to go!
